Gauge Unification, Yukawa Hierarchy and the μ Problem

چکیده
The hierarchy in the Yukawa couplings may be the result of a gauged horizontal U(1)H symmetry. If the mixed anomalies of the Standard Model gauge group with U(1)H are cancelled by a Green-Schwarz mechanism, a relation between the gauge couplings, the Yukawa couplings and the μ-term arises. Assuming that at a high energy scale g 3 = g 2 2 = 5 3g 2 1 and (memμmτ )/(mdmsmb) ∼ λ (where λ is of the order of the Cabibbo angle), the U(1)H symmetry solves the μ-problem with μ ∼ λm3/2.

Unification through extra dimensions at two loops
The presence of an extra dimension of size R ≡ M−1 c introduces corrections of order (μ/Mc)α to the gauge and Yukawa couplings and accelerates their running at scales μ larger than Mc. This could result in a grand unification scale MX ≈ 20Mc. We study the corrections at the two-loop level. We find corrections of order (μ/Mc)α 2 for the gauge couplings and of order (μ/Mc) 2α2 for the Yukawa coup...

A supersymmetric 5D SU(5) grand unification is considered. The SU(5) is broken down to GSM = SU(3)× SU(2)×U(1) by the Z2 ×Z ′ 2 assignment of the bulk field(s). The matter fields are located at the fixed point(s). In the bulk, a Higgs multiplet 5̄H(containing the bottom doublet H1) and the SU(5) gauge multiplet are located. At one fixed point, H2(the top doublet) and the standard model matter mu...

The principles of finiteness and reduction of couplings can be applied to achieve GaugeYukawa Unification. It is found that the observed top-bottom hierarchy and the top quark mass naturally follow if there exists Gauge-Yukawa Unification which is a simple functional relation among the gauge coupling and the Yukawa couplings of the third generation in various susy unified gauge models. We brief...
